Gucci has announced plans to host its next cruise collection in London.
Having previously staged a runway show at Westminster Abbey in 2016, the Kering-owned Italian fashion house will return to the capital city to showcase its Spring 2025 pre-collection on May 13th, 2024.
A location for the presentation has yet to be disclosed.
According to the label, the choice of destination is an intentional tribute to Gucci’s “profound connection to the British capital”.
“London is intrinsically linked to the brands heritage, and offers new opportunities to delve into the integral role the city has played in shaping the brand’s narrative throughout its storied history as a world-renowned symbol of Italian craft, visionary creativity, and innovative design.” said Gucci in a press release.
Indeed Gucci’s ties to London date back to the 1800’s, when brand founder Guccio Gucci served as a luggage porter and lift boy at The Savoy Hotel in 1897.
After witnessing first hand what was once described as the “lifestyle of the international elite”, Gucci was said to be inspired to start creating his own line of luxury suitcases and bags.
As a result, he founded his namesake fashion label in Florence in 1921, and the first Gucci store was opened in the Italian city of Via della Vigna Nuova.
The 2025 collection will be designed under the watch of Gucci’s newest Creative Director, Sabato De Sarno, who made his debut for SS24.
Last year the brands cruise show at the Gyeongbokgung Place in Seoul marked Gucci’s 25 years in the country.
The collection was designed by an in-house team following the exit of previous Creative Director Alessandro Michele in November 2022.
