London is a huge city with plenty of things to do, regardless of what day of the week it is. But what about on Sundays? If you’re wondering what time shops in London open on Sunday, we’ve put together this handy guide so you can plan your shopping trip.
Shopping in London – Sunday Opening Times
Shops in London and all over England are subject to the Sunday Trading Act 1994, which means that they can only open for a maximum of six hours between the hours of 10am and 6pm
This law was introduced in an attempt to protect workers, and while it may seem like a pain if you’re used to being able to shop whenever you want, it does mean that Sundays in London have a more relaxed feel.
In central London, most shops choose to open at midday (12pm) until 6pm. It’s common for department stores and some larger shops to open 30 minutes to an hour earlier than their official trading times. For example, Harrods opens at 11.30am for browsing on Sunday but you won’t be able to make any purchases until the store officially starts trading at 12pm.
Of course, not all shops stick to these hours – there are some exceptions. In general, the Sunday Trading act only applies to large shops over 280m², so smaller shops are free to open whenever they want.
Other shops that are exempt from the act include pharmacies, farm shops, petrol and service stations, garden centres, and airport shops.

Do Shops in London Close Early on Sunday?
Most shops in London close at 6pm on Sunday, to ensure they are within the limits for trading hours on Sunday.
However, not all shops stick to these hours. Some open later and will therefore close later. If you prefer to shop later, it’s best to check the website of the shops you want to visit to see if any are open later than 6pm.
What Time Do London Shopping Centres Open and Close on Sunday?
Most London shopping centres including Westfield London stick to the standard Sunday opening hours of 12pm – 6pm. However some individual shops may open later.
Some outlet malls are open longer hours. For example, London Designer Outlet and Bicester Village are both open from 10am – 7pm.
What Time Does Oxford Street Open on Sunday?
The majority of shops on Oxford Street open at 12pm. However, some stores do open earlier or later, so check the website of the individual store before you visit.
As with most streets in central London, the shops are closed by around six in the evening.
Is Everything Open in London on Sundays?
While opening hours are limited, most shops, malls, restaurants, and attractions are open in London on Sundays.
It’s always best to check the website of the attraction you’re interested in visiting to find out if it’s open on Sunday before you make your plans.
All banks in London are closed on Sundays, but some foreign currency exchange offices are open.
