What Is Colour Analysis and How Can It Transform Your Life?

FashionWhat Is Colour Analysis and How Can It Transform Your Life?

[ad_1]

Colour analysis is certainly having a moment, thanks in part, no doubt, to TikTok. The hashtags #ColourAnalysis and #ColorAnalysis have amassed over 750 million views and counting. With the term trending on a platform that boasts a high proportion of Gen Zs in its audience — who weren’t born when colour analysis first came to prominence in the 1980s — it’s not too surprising that it has become a trending topic.

Another reason for the resurgence of colour analysis is our growing awareness of environmental issues, with clothing waste being one of the major concerns. Buying fewer clothes and having more to wear, and prioritising quality over quantity becomes simpler once you know what truly suits you.

So, what is Colour Analysis?

While the original concept was developed in the early 1980s, colour analysis has since undergone a total transformation, especially as far as Colour Me Beautiful is concerned. If you’ve had a consultation before, one of the biggest changes you’ll notice is that we no longer use the seasonal method of analysis, as we believe it doesn’t work for everyone. Our tonal method is fully inclusive and represents a much more modern approach to colour analysis.

No longer do we tell you which colours to wear; instead, we show you how to wear colour based on the undertone, depth, and clarity of your colouring. Colour analysis in the 21st century is more about ‘the shades’ of a hue, rather than the hue itself. Wearing your best shades of clothing enhances your natural colouring, brings out your individuality, boosts confidence, and ensures you always look your best, effortlessly expressing your personal style. It also enables both men and women to build a coordinated wardrobe and make wiser purchasing decisions.

What happens during a Colour Consultation?

Your colour analysis consultation will last approximately 1½ to 2 hours. During your session, you’ll have your makeup applied and be shown how to wear, and indeed combine, your most flattering shades for maximum effect. At Colour Me Beautiful, we start by explaining our 24-palette system so that the client fully understands why he or she falls into a certain colouring type. Larger coloured swatches (known as ‘drapes’ in the trade) are used to test for the undertone, depth, and clarity of the individual’s colouring. After a decision on the shades of colours is reached, the client is presented with a wallet containing 42 fabric swatches to use as a guide when shopping. A natural makeup look is applied, and then the client is shown ‘how to wear’ the range of colours in their palette. While doing this, the individual’s personality, job, and lifestyle are considered, making the whole experience tailor-made for each client.

What is My Dominant Colouring?

Colour Me Beautiful uses six basic categories to explain the concept, and these are expanded on during a personalised consultation. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, so in the list below, we’ve categorised various celebrities and listed the characteristics that lead us to determine their dominant colouring. If you look at yourself in the mirror and have similar characteristics to the celebrities mentioned, then it’s likely you have the same dominant colouring.

  • LIGHT: Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson (blonde hair, light eyes, fair skin)
  • DEEP: Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves (dark/black hair, dark eyes, porcelain to black skin)
  • WARM: Julianne Moore, Damian Lewis (red/strawberry blonde hair, pale skin, often with freckles, to golden brown, any eye colour)
  • COOL: Dame Judi Dench, Idris Elba (ash grey/white to black hair, porcelain/rosy to blue-black skin, any colour eyes)
  • CLEAR: Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Henry Cavill (mid-brown to black hair, porcelain to black skin, any eye colour — with clarity)
  • SOFT: Jennifer Aniston, David Beckham (mousy to blonde hair, porcelain to golden brown skin, eye colour soft blue, green, grey, often hazel or brown)

What are the benefits of knowing your colours?

Once an individual is shown how to wear ‘their shades’, shopping becomes much easier, and wardrobe mistakes become a thing of the past. The fabric swatches supplied in your wallet represent thousands of shades and are to be used as a guide only. Wearing your best colours not only lifts your mood; they also make you look healthier and feel more confident. They’ll also help you to understand why a colour may look fabulous on your best friend but make you look as though you need a blood transfusion. If you had your colours done many years ago, you may have noticed that some of them are no longer working for you; this is perfectly normal. Our individual colouring changes as we age, as we lose pigment in both our skin and hair.
