Arabian Weekly report

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia suffered their first defeat at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, falling 1-0 to hosts United States in their second Group D match on Thursday night (Friday morning GMT).

Chris Richards scored the game’s only goal in the 63rd minute, steering the U.S. into the quarterfinals with a perfect six points from two matches.

The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States and Canada, marks Saudi Arabia’s debut as a special guest invitee.

Despite the loss, Saudi Arabia delivered a more composed and disciplined performance than in their opening 1-0 win over Haiti.

The Green Falcons came close on multiple occasions but were undone by poor finishing and a bit of misfortune in key moments.

The result leaves the United States top of the group with six points after their emphatic 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the opener.

Saudi Arabia remain second with three points, ahead of Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago, who played out a 1-1 draw earlier on Thursday and have one point each.

Saudi Arabia will face Trinidad and Tobago in their final group match, needing only a draw to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the United States will look to seal top spot in Group D when they meet Haiti.
