Even games like Slingo Journey to Asgard are popular, and showcase not only the Viking era, but also the gods that people worshipped during that time. Content like this has helped to propel the Vikings into popular culture, while highlighting their appeal.
The Norse Fashion Style Lives on Today
Vikings relied on wool, linen, and leather, as they were strong, warm, and very easy to produce, as explained by Nationalmuseet, or the National Museum of Denmark. If you look at fashion today, wool and natural fabrics are paving the way for functional and sustainable styles. Brands like Fjällräven and Patagonia are also releasing wool-blend outdoor wear in Nordic styles.
We are seeing a rise in heavyweight wool coats and rugged aesthetics as well. Layering is also a blueprint for oversized looks. Tunics were incredibly popular in the Viking era, as they were comfortable, easy to make, and supported the living conditions at the time. Tunics are also coming back now, in the form of longline t-shirts, tunic dresses, and layered silhouettes.

We are seeing a sharp rise in the number of Scandinavian-pattern knits, alongside embroidered leather bags and geometric stitching. Etro’s Nordic-inspired collection from 2022 also reflects the craftsmanship that is synonymous with the region, delivering huge Norse energy while also making sure that there is a modern twist added to maintain the connection to new and current collections.
With Nordic pendants and necklaces that feature Thor’s hammer widely available on the market, it’s safe to say that there aren’t many historical eras that have inspired the world of fashion quite like the Vikings have. Our fascination with the era goes far beyond Netflix shows, books, and games, and when you break it down, it’s not hard to see its influence on fashion, too. As time goes on, this trend is expected to take hold even more, especially as we embrace more international styles.
