Parts of the UK have been placed under an amber health alert as Brits prepare to ring in the 2026 New Year’s celebrations amid frosty conditions.
Snow may be in store for some parts of the country, with temperatures dipping to -4 degrees, and there are even reports that the first week of January may see a sprinkling of snow in London.

According to the latest Met Office predictions, New Year’s Eve is going to be pretty pleasant regarding the weather.
New Year’s Eve is actually going to be pretty sunny during the day, with clear skies and highs of five degrees Celsius.
As we head into the night, temperatures will drop to around one or two degrees Celsius, with a light breeze and no rain.
At the time of writing, this means Londoners may be able to enjoy great views of the fireworks.
But for those partying into the early hours, remember it’ll be pretty chilly on the way home, so make sure you wrap up warm.
Is it going to snow in London?
As it stands, there won’t be any snow in London for New Year’s Eve, but there might be some frosty days in the new year.
Reports indicate that the capital may see a sprinkling of light snow on Monday, January 5, as many return to work.
According to the Met Office’s long-range forecast, the first week of January will bring wintry showers and cold days across the country.
“Cold northerly winds, initially across Scotland, are now expected to become dominant across the whole UK in the first week of January. These will bring wintry showers (often of snow) to many coastlines (and areas just inland of these) that are exposed to onshore winds,” the forecast reads.
It continues: “There are likely to be some more coherent bands of rain, sleet and snow working south, and these may bring a risk of more prolonged wintry precipitation affecting some inland areas.”
