The Hammers take to the field today for a Premier League game against Leeds just hours after the death of joint-chairman David Gold. The 86-year-old passed away this morning after a short illness.
Born in east London, Gold grew up across the road from West Ham’s ground and began a career in business that would see him take charge of Birmingham alongside David Sullivan before helping buy his beloved Hammers in 2010. Both teams will wear black armbands in his memory tonight.
On the pitch tonight, David Moyes will continue to fight to turn the tide of West Ham’s poor form which has dropped them to the brink of the relegation zone. Leeds, meanwhile, are only two points clear but can take confidence from facing one of the league’s worst away teams, the Hammers boasting only one win and four goals in eight road trips.
