Touring London’s Christmas windows displays is an art exhibition, fashion show and winter wonderland all rolled into one. As famous as they are beautiful, they’re sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. Ranging from toy stores to food havens, social statements or fashion moments, there is a window for everyone. This article rounds up the best Christmas window displays in London, highlighting those ones which truly cannot be missed.
Starting at Selfridges on Oxford Street, the store has chosen to use their windows to highlight the power of food in their display aptly named ‘season’s feastings’. A Brussel sprout Christmas tree topples off the top of a taxi, inflated roast potatoes gently sway whilst Santa holds a boulder-sized mince pie. It is a stomach-rumble!
For something completely different, Harvey Nichols has opted for a sparkly wonderland, with mirrors, metallics and glitter galore, where mannequins pose in the latest glitzy party outfits.
And of course, a luxury storefront lights tour isn’t complete with mentioning Harrods, which has been converted by The Fabulous World of Dior into an incredible gingerbread house.
Meanwhile, Fortnum and Mason has established itself once again as the home of Christmas tradition with its annual advent calendar facade. The countdown is on, and note how with each changing day, a date is lit up. This alone immediately warrants more than one trip!
Continue down the road for five minutes and you’ll come across the Ritz London, where classic baubles, wreaths, twinkling lights and deep forest green Christmas trees adorn the building. In an extra-special touch, the Hamleys X The Ritz London Christmas Grotto is open, and expect to be blown away by the magic surrounding the enchanted world of the North Pole.
Bond Street is in a league of its own – with Cartier the jewel in the crown of beautiful storefront displays down this road. Gift-wrapping the entire building with a perfectly neat, crimson red bow, the golden Cartier panther illuminations complement the elegance and chic of this display. Across the road, a five metre tall Norman Fir tree towers outside of Ralph Lauren, surrounded by wreaths and arches. The Royal Marsden Cancer charity is honoured by royal inspired Christmas lights, and donations can be made in-store.
Away from the glamour of the designer shops, Mr Fogg’s Tavern in Covent Garden has embraced the festive season through a celebration of nature, where deep red roses are serenaded by green leaves, with an added sweet touch of lollipops and candy canes.
Down in Carnaby Street, the ‘Choose Love’ illuminations remind shoppers of the essence of Christmas – with the additional opportunity to buy supplies and donate to refugees and globally displaced people.
And finally, the icing on the Christmas cake – Hamleys. The home of childhood dreams, this is where Christmas magic truly comes alive. Reindeers have taken centre stage in the windows, whilst Santa’s elves stand ready to welcome you into the store.
