Miami startup Black Diamond taps e-commerce platform Temu to reach new car owners and enthusiasts amid surging demand for affordable personalization
Audiophiles with a serious car habit are turning to online marketplaces like Temu to source affordable custom sound systems—bringing fresh energy to car audio culture.
Black Diamond Audio, a Miami-based startup founded in 2021, is capitalizing on this online shift with affordable, easy-to-install audio systems designed to meet rising demand. Partnering with e-commerce platform Temu, the company is scaling nationally to reach new audiences.
“More and more drivers are choosing car audio as the starting point to add personality and style to their rides,” said Alexandre Freitas, Director of E-Commerce at Black Diamond. “Temu aligns perfectly with our pricing strategy, connects consumers directly with brands, and has a strong, growing base of value-conscious shoppers.”
Car audio culture first took root in the U.S. in the 1980s and ’90s, as advances in aftermarket sound systems gave rise to a generation of enthusiasts obsessed with turning their vehicles into mobile concert halls. What started with simple speaker upgrades quickly evolved into a full-fledged subculture, complete with bass battles, SPL (sound pressure level) competitions, and show cars built around massive subwoofer arrays.
Deeply tied to hip-hop, lowrider, and custom car scenes, the movement became a way for builders to express personal style through sound. The U.S. auto aftermarket is projected to surpass $400 billion in 2025, with younger audiophiles turning to e-commerce platforms like Temu to access affordable gear.
According to a recent Ipsos survey commissioned by Temu, 67 % of U.S. Temu shoppers cited affordable prices as an initial reason for shopping on the platform, and 75% said Temu offers good value for the money. With its rapid growth and expanding product selection, Temu has become a go-to destination for consumers looking to stretch their dollar.

Rapid Growth with Temu
Black Diamond joined Temu in late 2024 soon after the platform fully opened to U.S.-based merchants. It quickly listed 45 products and reported promising early order volumes without major promotions.
Encouraged by this traction, Black Diamond is targeting $5,000 to $10,000 in daily sales as it expands its catalog and optimizes listings.
“Our products are priced 20–30% below legacy competitors,” said Freitas. “We’re seeing strong engagement from both new car owners and long-time enthusiasts seeking high-quality, cost-effective audio upgrades.”
The company primarily sells car speakers, typically priced between $50 and $100, and audio amplifiers ranging from $200 to $350—making them a popular, affordable option for vehicle customization.
Temu offers dynamic pricing tools, promotional experimentation, streamlined logistics, and proactive support, enabling brands like Black Diamond to onboard quickly and start selling seamlessly.
“I no longer need to talk to AI,” said Avi Zycer, a member of Black Diamond’s Affiliate Team. “I’m receiving check-in emails almost every two days from Temu’s team. Their responses are quick and thoughtful, which is rare on other platforms unless you’re a major brand.”
The company intends to ride the new wave of online demand, with platforms like Temu offering sellers a direct pipeline to the customers driving that trend.
“E-commerce is the future,” Freitas said. “We prioritize the consumer by offering affordable products with great quality, making audio upgrades attainable. That’s why we’re committed to onboarding the latest and most promising platforms to reach a wider audience.”
