VOGUE: Inventing the Runway is a new immersive exhibition coming to Lightroom London in November.
The show utilises Vogue’s archive and contributor network to create an experience that brings together the industry’s leading voices from the past, present, and future.
Charting the history of the fashion runway show from the intimate couture salons of the early 20th century to the unforgettable pop-culture events of the present, the show reveals how fashion shows became the ultimate statement of a designer’s vision.
With first-hand testimony and a rich mixture of media, Inventing the Runway charts the fashion show’s evolution.
Inventing the Runway brings us inside fashion shows – on the front row and behind the scenes – transporting audiences through locations and eras. With Lightroom’s four-storey walls as a 360-degree canvas, you can experience and interact with designers’ visions up close, in new ways and at unprecedented scale.
Through a cycle of thematic chapters, Inventing the Runway uses original animation in an experience that is both visceral and insightful, with immersive sound design and a score fusing original composition with classical and pop music, all of which will evoke the worlds when iconic shows shifted the cultural landscape.

Fashion shows went from intimate affairs for a select few to big spectacle broadcast to the masses in a short amount of time. The shows have evolved with our relationship to fashion, and while only a few still attend shows regularly, they have become accessible to all through technology.
VOGUE: Inventing the Runway explores the evolution of the runway in collaboration with Vogue, a magazine that has been reporting on fashion since the days of the salons.

Tickets are from £25 for adults and from £15 for students and children (3-18 years old – under 3s go free before 6pm). Family discounts are also available.
Lightroom is located on Lewis Cubitt Square, adjacent to Coal Drops Yard. The address is 12 Lewis Cubitt Square, King’s Cross, N1C 4DY, London.
Lightroom is fully accessible for wheelchair users, with level entry and lift access to all floors.

London’s new home for artist-led shows, Lightroom is in King’s Cross, around the corner from Central Saint Martins.
The four-storey space is equipped with the latest digital projection and audio technology. It aspires to be visually astonishing, alive with sound and rich in new perspectives.
