After three years of development and over five thousand miles of testing, KEEN has released an innovative shoe designed to revolutionise the walking experience.
The WK400 has been developed with KEEN.CURVE technology – a curved sole design with underfoot plate technology and a high-energy midsole to provide forward momentum and make walking feel like rolling.
KEEN’s Global Product Innovation Creative Director, Rory Fuerst Jr., was inspired to design the WK400 after he suffered a skiing accident that left him unable to walk for several months. While he’d previously been a keen athlete, he found the simple act of walking four months into his recovery helped to lift him out of depression, improved his health, reduced stress, and provided countless healing benefits.
Rory Jr. decided to investigate the science of walking more deeply and with the help of Ciro
Fusco, a footwear innovator with a PhD in Physics and Environmental Science, the pair created KEEN.CURVE technology to assist the body’s natural walking arc.
As well as the curved sole, the WK400 features a generous 30mm toe spring for a smooth transition between heel strike and toe off, and a 10mm drop between the heel and forefoot to improve stability and promote forward momentum.
To celebrate the launch of the WK400, KEEN has embarked on a mission to raise awareness about the benefits of walking by launching a podcast and promoting walking clubs and walking charities.
The WK400 is available in four different colours and in men’s and women’s fits. Priced at $165, it’s available now from keenfootwear.com and selected sporting goods retailers.
