Chelsea have beaten Arsenal to the signing of top transfer target Mykhaylo Mudryk with a remarkable 11th-hour hijacking bid. The Gunners were growing confident that they would sign the Shakhtar Donetsk winger but it is Stamford Bridge where he is heading in a blockbuster deal worth up to £89million. A medical took place on Sunday morning, with Mudryk set to watch the game against Crystal Palace. Arsenal are now turning back to Raphinha.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with a renewed bid for Marcus Thuram after new signing Joao Felix was quickly banned for a red card on his debut. A bid has also been made for Noni Madueke, while Moises Caicedo is another key target after the Enzo Fernandez talks collapsed.
Tottenham are still at loggerheads with Sporting Lisbon over Pedro Porro, but they have been handed a major boost in their bid to sign Leandro Trossard and are also chasing Piero Hincapie. Wout Weghorst’s move to Manchester United has been confirmed, while Lionel Messi could apparently follow great rival Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia in another huge deal worth £245million a year. Mudryk completes Chelsea medical
Mykhaylo Mudryk has completed his Chelsea medical after underdoing tests this morning.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the winger is now signing his seven-and-a-half year contract, with is £89m move on the verge of completion.
Mudryk is expected to be unveiled at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
Chelsea not done yet…
Chelsea are still expecting to make at least two more signings this window.
That’s according to Ben Jacobs, with it reported that Moises Caicedo in particular is a major target.
Brighton are believed to want a fee in the region of £75m to sell the midfielder this month – one to keep an eye on.
Spurs consider Zaniolo move
Tottenham are eyeing a potential January swoop for Nicolo Zaniolo.
The Roma man is out of contract next summer and a new deal is looking unlikely, with his relationship with the fans increasingly strained.
Football Italia report that the likes of Juventus and Napoli are considering a summer move, but Spurs could win the race by moving this month for the 23-year-old. An offer of €30m could be enough to get Zaniolo.
Chelsea plan to present Mudryk signing TODAY
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Chelsea do indeed intend to unveil Mykhaylo Mudryk as their latest January signing at Stamford Bridge today ahead of or maybe even at half-time of the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
The Italian transfer specialist adds that he understands some of the add-ons in the huge €100m transfer package are related to Mudryk winning the Premier League and Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea-bound Mudryk given Shakhtar guard of honour
It seems that Shakhtar Donetsk’s players have already said their farewells to Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Ukraine international was treated to a guard of honour at a session during Shakhtar’s winter break training camp in Turkey on Saturday, before departing for London and putting the finishing touches on that blockbuster switch to Chelsea.
As revealed earlier, Mudryk is completing his Chelsea medical this morning and officially signing his seven-and-a-half year contract that will last until the summer of 2030.
The deal will then presumably be announced before he is at Stamford Bridge and potentially presented to the crowd ahead of a must-win London derby against Crystal Palace.
Tottenham want Hincapie and Porro deals
Plenty going on with Tottenham at the moment as well.
Spurs are trying to sign Spanish right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon, but still seem locked at an impasse with the Portuguese giants over their top January target as they demand that his £39.9m release clause is met in full.
According to The Sun, Tottenham are lining up a £20m move for Bayer Leverkusen and Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie in addition to still chasing Porro.
They add that fresh talks with Sporting over the latter are planned for this week, with Spurs currently only willing to pay around £27m for his services.
Tottenham could potentially sign Hincapie now and then loan him back to Leverkusen for the rest of the 2022/23 season, as they did in the summer with Udinese defender Destiny Udogie.
Chelsea table Noni Madueke bid
We wait to see what impact Chelsea’s deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk will have on their pursuit of Noni Madueke.
The Blues had been hot on the trail of the PSV Eindhoven winger, an England Under-21 international and former Tottenham youth star.
Before the Mudryk hijack surfaced, ESPN reported that Chelsea had lodged an official bid for Madueke worth €30m.
That came after an official enquiry earlier in the week for a long-term Graham Potter target, with PSV reluctant to see the 20-year-old leave after also selling Cody Gakpo to Liverpool in this window.
Arsenal could return for Pino and Diaby
Raphinha is not the only winger target seemingly back on Arsenal’s transfer radar after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Gunners had a number of names in that position over the summer and were also strongly linked with Orlando city star Facundo Torres late last year.
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal could go back in for the likes of Villarreal’s Spain international Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen and France.
Chelsea all but confirm Mudryk signing
Chelsea are not exactly staying quiet on the subject of Mykhaylo Mudryk either.
Last night, they made the surprising decision to add his official handle to their bio on Instagram, which is still there this morning.
They also sent out two Mudryk posts on Insta, the first of which was a highlights clip that read: “Some @mmudryk10 magic! Drop him a follow!”
The second was a picture of the player along with the message: “Drop @mmudryk10 a message to show some love!”
On Twitter, they quote tweeted Shakhtar Donetsk’s tweet that the deal was close with a simple eyes emoji.
