The quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup start tonight with a fascinating clash between Premier League Manchester United and League One Charlton at Old Trafford. All the pressure will be on the Red Devils to get the job done as Erik ten Hag pursues his first trophy at the club.
But United have been in top form lately and are on a seven-game winning streak, which has included comfortable home victories over Burnley and Aston Villa in the last rounds. Ten Hag has picked a strong team to face the Addicks including youngster Kobbie Mainoo with Bruno Fernandes suspended.
Charlton travel to Manchester after back-to-back wins under new manager Dean Holden, elevating them to mid-table in League One. Not since 2007 have they reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and they have never progressed further than this stage. Follow Man United vs Charlton live commentary with Standard Sport’s match blog!

Dean Holden previews the match
“Really really proud, it’s going to be a great night for Charlton Athletic,” says Addicks boss and huge Red Devils fans Holden, who’s native to nearby Swinton.
“The main focus is the performance obviously but we just said to the players, they need to make sure they embrace the situation. Not many young players in particularly get to come to an arena like this.
“So we’ve got to make sure we give the best version of ourselves on the pitch.”
One change for Charlton
Craig MacGillivray drops out in goal for the fit-again Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
Otherwise it is unchanged from the weekend win over Lincoln as Charlton opt against the five-man defence that helped them beat Brighton.
Sam Lavelle was the penalty shootout hero that night but he’s on the bench here.
Mainoo makes his debut
Well, that is a surprise!
Teenager Kobbie Mainoo, just 17 years old, is in the United line-up tonight as he joins Anthony Elanga, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho in attack. Not quite clear who will be the leading striker of that quartet.
Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez pair up in defence with no Jack Butland in the squad as Tom Heaton makes his first start in United colours.
